Actions speak louder than words. Practical projects on the ground are a vital part of the Trust's work. Not only do they benefit local communities but they show the technology in action. Here is an idea of what's going on in Kenya and Uganda.

Kenya
 
 
Maranjau Prison

The Good Earth Trust is supporting the rehabilitation of prisoners through vocational training in ISSB technology (block-making). A 15,000 litre water-tank has been constructed for the prison, so improving sanitation and demonstrating water-tank construction techniques. Further tank construction and training is planned for two nearby primary schools as a community service by the prison. The project is being used as a pilot for demonstration to the Ministry of Domestic Affairs and the Ministry of Housing. The Good Earth Trust is providing training, technical support and a small amount of cement and has supplied a brick-making machine.

 
Slum-Challenge (Thika)

The Good Earth Trust is working with ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency), UN Habitat and Vakord Ltd on a project to construct a youth resource centre by a youth group that will be trained in the technology. The Good Earth Trust has supplied one machine and the partners are currently seeking project funding for training & materials.

 
El-Wak Millennium Village

The Kenya Red Cross is planning a 100 housing unit project for upgrading informal settlements for nomads in El-Wak, Northern Kenya. The Good Earth Trust will provide ISSB training and will document project.

 
Loiangalani Secondary School, Lake Turkana

The Good Earth Trust is partnering with the Constant Gardener Trust for the construction of a secondary school including water & sanitation facilities in Loiangalani. The Good Earth Trust is providing management, training & technical support.

Nakyenyi water-harvesting project

Working with the Village Development Association and supported by project funding from the BodyShop Foundation, some twenty five 5,000 litre rainwater harvesting tanks have been constructed in Nakyenyi village in Masaka District. The Good Earth Trust provided management, support and training and supplied the ISSB machine & some construction materials. Individual homeowners also contributed money for their individual tanks. Training in ISSB and business skills was provided to 10 of the Association members.

 
Promoting Equality for African Schools

As a result of advocacy by the Good Earth Trust, a major Ugandan NGO, Promoting Equality for African Schools (PEAS), has adopted ISSB for construction of primary schools across Uganda. The Good Earth Trust is providing training, support & technical advice.

 
Pajule Secondary School Complex

Again as a result of advocacy by the Good Earth Trust, GOAL (an Irish NGO) working with Arup Engineering Consultants, has adopted ISSB for the construction of secondary school complex in Pajule, Pader Disrict. The Good Earth Trust is providing training, technical advice, soil-testing and project supervision.

Soroti urban clinic complex

Engineers for Overseas Development (EFOD) a UK based
NGO has adopted ISSB for construction of this clinic in Soroti. GET is providing training, support & technical advice, soil-testing and site-visits, & project supervision.

 
PEMO- Practicing Environmental Managers Association
 

PEMO is an environmental organisation that works in Uganda undertaking innovative environmental projects stretching from environmental research, awareness programs and proactive restoration of degraded environments.  GET and PEMO will work together to build and agro-forestry school using ISSB Technology.

 
Connect Africa

ConnectAfricalogo.gif

Connect Africa is a religious organisation working in Northern Uganda in the Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps.  They are building resource centres from ISSB technology and are working with GET to train at these centres and partner in the proliferation of the technology.

 

Avarts Housing Limited

Avarts Housing Limited is a KampalaUganda based company that offers agency services in real estate, a real estate magazine: The Estate, and insurance.  GET and Avarts Housing Limited are working together to develop a commercial private sector solution to the housing needs in Uganda through research into low-cost eco homes that would use appropriate technologies including ISSB Technology.
